Tribal Trends

The tribal, ethnic trend continues to flood the catwalks embracing primitive motifs inspired by African designs combined with the safari look. Tribal themes can be identified quite easly on the catwalk seeing a strong use of animal prints, from designers such as Christopher Kane, as well as Egyptian style drappery combined with neutral tones and fabrics such as chiffon to create a regal theme within tribal, seen by designers such as Paul Smith as well as Gucci who have heavily marketed many of their products around this theme.

Many key fashion items presented on the catwalk for this theme are beige safari shorts, cuffed sandals of a light neutral colour such as khaki or beige and animal print knitwear such as a lightweight cardigan. The tribal collection covers a wide range of sub trends being divided into names such as tribal chic, safari luxe and pretty pastels all of which follow similar styles. The maxi dress is also a key competitor within this trend for summer 2010 in wild jungle prints and exotic patterns, a main seller for many high street stores.

Accessories also play a large role in this trend, combining sheer fabrics and simple looks with statement jewellery such as studded cuffs and chunky wooden beaded necklaces in coloured patterns of reds and urban oranges. This is a trend which I think will continue to crop up on the catwalk due to it being so versitile and can create many different looks which can be come under one trend, the tribal trend.
